Started in Limehouse in 2004, Franklyn James has gone from strength to strength. There have been great times – London 2012 Olympics and not such great times – Northern Rock 2008. Two further offices have now opened; on Westferry Road in 2007 and in Blackheath this year and plans are afoot for office number four.
Communication is key, but not just empty words or exercises in box ticking – we believe in telling it like it is so that we can make things happen. A lack of transparency and clarity can lead to expectations being mismanaged and time and money being wasted on both sides. We won’t make claims that we can’t support and we won’t make promises that we can’t keep. It is easy to find people who are enthusiastic about delivering good news, but it is the nature of our business that we don’t always have good news to deliver to our clients. Properties don’t always go under offer on the first viewing and homes will always need maintenance and repair. The skills we demand of our team are the ability to tackle problems head-on, to be proactive in finding solutions and above all to communicate in a friendly and warm manner, whether the news is great – a good offer – or not so great – a leaky boiler.
All of our staff are experienced professionals who take their responsibilities to client and company very seriously. To ensure a wide skills set across the company we have members of staff from a variety of backgrounds, such as legal, financial and other types of sales. This provides a good well of knowledge for all to draw from and also, though
the promotion of in-house training and mentoring, a healthy working environment.
Our team members speak a variety of languages between them: Turkish, Polish, Creole and French to name just a few, which comes in very handy in such a multicultural city. You don’t have to be a negotiator to work in an estate agency. Some jobs are totally office-based, in a quiet environment, with fixed salaries. Others involve a lot of travelling around the local area, numerous telephone conversations and a portion of the salary is performance related.
We like our staff to be flexible too, as it’s not uncommon for staff members to change roles within the team; a person who starts out as a lettings negotiator may later switch to sales or property management.
