Westferry is an area of London close to the Isle of Dogs and the gleaming steel and glass architecture of Canary Wharf. The name “Westferry” comes from the Westferry import/export company which used the site for its warehouses in the middle of the 19th century. The firm built the first major transport link through the area, called Westferry Road, and spearheaded the development of the interior of the Isle of Dogs.

Over the following decades, Westferry became an important hub for processing imports near to Canary Wharf and then shipping them off to central London and the surrounding boroughs. In the 1960s and 1970s, the dock industry moved elsewhere, and the area began to degenerate. In the 1990s, however, with the redevelopment of the Isle of Dogs and the creation of high-quality office high rises, the region saw a revival, with old dockyards converted into modern, attractive accommodation. Today, there are more reasons than ever to choose Westferry as your next home.

Incredible Views Of Canary Wharf Development

The first tower to go up in Canary Wharf was One Canada Square- the 236-metre skyscraper with its iconic pyramidal roof. Then, in the later 1990s and early 2000s, Citi Bank and HSBC both erected similarly impressive buildings adjacent to house their London office staff. Since then, the area has grown up considerably, with many large buildings either planned, under construction, or completed. People living in Westferry, therefore, can buy apartments with fabulous views over one of the most architecturally dynamic and exciting parts of the city.

Great Transport Links To The City And West End

Westferry is close to the Docklands Light Rail which integrates with the rest of the London tube system. Commuters can take the Westferry DLR station west to Bank in the City and pick up either the Central or Bakerloo lines. Residents can also take the DLR east towards Greenwich and Lewisham to pick up national overground rail services.

Westferry sits close to Crossrail place, a terminal in London’s Crossrail network, something which could push up residential property values in the area in the future.

Stunning Residential Properties

Westferry sits in the shadow of the Canary Wharf skyscraper district, a major employment hub. Residential properties in the area, therefore, have both character (thanks to the area’s heritage) and all of the modern conveniences that a person could want.

Great Access To Childcare Facilities

Westferry is not only great for young professionals working in nearby Docklands and Canary Wharf, but also for families with children. Local businesses offer everything from Saturday and Sunday workshops for kids to fitness and yoga classes for parents.

Excellent Amenities

Being right in the heart of one of London’s most active economic hubs, Westferry provides practically every service you can imagine from upmarket restaurant experiences to world-class shopping. For instance, Westferry is close to the Canary Wharf shopping centre, an underground mall that sits below the towering skyscrapers above. As you might imagine, there are a plethora of nearby eating experiences, including the Terrace Bar at Wahaca, Noodle Street, and Sticks’n’Sushi.
