Franklyn James Proudly Sponsor ‘The Castle’

Nestled in the Isle of Dogs, between the high rise offices and the Thames, stands a beautiful, red brick converted church – now known as the Space. This Grade II listed building is a rising star of the performing arts scene and a crucial community centre for locals, presenting cutting edge theatre and quickly becoming one of the most exciting Fringe venues in London.

This October their in house theatre company Space Productions are celebrating their 10 year anniversary with Howard Barker’s brilliantly funny and powerful ‘The Castle’, an epic tale of love, power and betrayal.

It’s a rainy day in middle England and Stucley returns home from the War to find his land untended, his sheep wild and his wife in bed with a witch. In the absence of men, a new way of life has emerged. No religion. No class. No hunger. The women are in charge now. They have their freedom and they’re not going to give it back. Stucley orders the erection of a castle to restore order and revive the old way of life. Will he succeed or will he inspire more conflict?

This will be the 24th production from Off West End Award nominated Space Productions, a company with an impressive reputation for presenting ambitious, accessible and bold theatre. ‘The Castle’ is no exception. The cast is vast, the script is epic, the costumes beautiful and the language colourful and they have a brilliant team of rising star actors and talented creatives piecing it all together.

The Space exists to increase access to the arts, support emerging artists and provide creative opportunities to local children and adults through SpaceWorks, their community theatre company. They make theatre that is inclusive, courageous and bold. So whether you are a regular at the Space or have never been and fancy a night at the theatre this production is a must see. As if this wasn’t enough there is also the small matter of ‘Hubbub’, the Space’s beautiful theatre café and bar serving craft beers and burgers – the makings of a perfect evening.

Sex. Religion. Power. Love. ‘The Castle’ has it all and with tickets at just £12 it’s an absolute bargain.

‘The Castle’ is running at the Space, 269 Westferry Road, E14 3RS from 10th – 28th October 2017. Tickets £12/£10. To book please visit www.space.org.uk or call box office on 0207 515 7799.
