The lights are switched on, presents have been bought, and you may even have a festive jingle in your step. No matter how much you might want to deny it, Christmas is fast approaching. Our area is bursting with activities to give you some festive cheer, and here are just some of our recommendations.
The Museum of London Docklands is a must for families, as they host a range of events throughout December to keep you and your children entertained. Put your culinary skills to the test on 16th & 17th December and learn about the spices that go into traditional Christmas puddings – you can even take your creation home for all the family to enjoy.
There is something truly special and magical about receiving something homemade, and during the wartime, homemade gifts and decorations were a necessity. On 20th & 21st December you can drop into the museum to get into the spirit of the times with their ‘make, do and mend’ workshops, where you can make your own decorations – just make sure you leave space for your works of art on your Christmas tree!
If you like festive arts and crafts and hand-crafted treasures, then visiting a Christmas Market may be your idea of seasonal bliss. The Tudor Barn in Eltham is hosting a Frost Fair Christmas Market on 10th December, not only will you find wonderful gifts but you can also indulge in a glass of mulled wine and taste the delicious food on offer from their vendors. A little elf has also told us that Father Christmas could be making an appearance too…
If you’re looking to do some late night Christmas shopping, why not step away from the high streets and head to Greenwich Market’s Late Night Wednesdays. With music serenading you as you shop, you will find a wealth of inspiration for gifts – we know you’ll struggle to leave empty handed. The atmosphere on Late Night Wednesdays is really magical; this is one place that will certainly put the merry into your Christmas.
With mince pies aplenty and treats around every corner, it’s easy to put on a pound or two around this time of year. So if you want to enjoy a guilt-free Christmas, why not sign up for the Christmas 5k or 10k run in Greenwich Park? Just to make sure that all entries are full of the joys of the season you are encouraged to run in fancy dress – what a great event to add to your pre-Christmas calendar.
Our area’s cultural venues are all packed with festive delights, and Blackheath Halls is no exception. From a Festive Family Sing-a-Long followed by a lantern procession, the Icarus Club’s Acoustic Christmas Spectacular, to their Christmas film series and concert featuring performances from many of our local community groups, there is something for everyone.
We know how magical the area is, and not just at Christmas; if you would like to learn more about why you should make it your home, contact our team at Franklyn James.
